Riding the Third Wave of Democracy (best practice transfers)

"Best Practice Transfers to Eastern Neighbourhood Countries" (Moldova and Ukraine) presented by Foreign Policy Expert from Bucharest Alex Coita at the Good Governance Conference in City Hall Chisinau

Presentation by Alex Coita : in Moldova at our annual Good Governance Conference organised by Prof Dr Melanie Sully in cooperation with the Austrian Foreign Ministry, the Cities of Vienna and Chisinau

Coita says that although the starting point was important, the most important factor for the success of the transition of the Eastern States was adhering to the rules of the European system (September 19, justice, transparency, rule of law). He thinks the new EU Member States can be mentors for the Eastern Neighbourhood, as they have fresh experience of the transition. Furthermore in relation to the Eastern partnership project (initiated by Warsaw), Poland has the vision, political will and administrative capacity to generate change and reforms. Coita concludes Romania suffers from an insufficient consistency in the formulation and implementation of policy support to the eastern area.  However, at least in the case of Moldova, Bucharest has experience in the fight against corruption and efforts to enhance justice and the rule of law. This could be enormously important for the Republic of Moldova.
